Bay hopes sunk by sub’s double
Bostik South
Herne Bay suffered their heaviest home defeat of the season when they lost 5-1 to Phoenix Sports on Saturday in Bostik South.
Two goals in the last 15 minutes from Phoenix substitute Ogboe Onoriode finished off any hopes Bay had of getting back into the match.
The hosts had started brightly and dominated possession in the first 20 minutes forcing opposition goalkeeper Steven Phillips into some fine saves.
Phoenix took the lead four minutes before half- time after Christie Patterson broke down the right and found Gil Cavalho who fired home past Bay goalkeeper Ben Hunter.
The lead didn’t last long as Bay equalised right before half-time as Jack Steventon headed home Tom Carlton’s corner.

Onoriode then put the game beyond doubt to secure a comprehensive win.
Jake Embery did have a chance to reduce the deficit but saw his shot cleared off the line.
That defeat puts Herne Bay 14th on 30 points. They were due to face South Park on Tuesday but the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Bay are away to Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.
Faversham earned a good point against Greenwich Borough on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

Griffiths opened the scoring in the ninth minute after Greenwich failed to clear. He controlled the ball on the edge of the box before firing home.
Their opposition pegged them back after 30 minutes when a free- kick headed towards goal hit the post, then rebounded off Town’s Renford Tenyue and into the net.
Bourne’s shot through a crowded penalty area in the 62nd minute regained the lead for Faversham only for Greenwich’s Jack Sammoutis to level eight minutes before time.
The visitors finished with 10 after Mark Phillips was sent off in the final minute for a challenge on Carl Rook.
