Sentencing date set for man who killed his own daughter

A father who admitting killing his daughter at a caravan park near Canterbury will be sentenced in two weeks’ time.

Richard Kray denied murder and his plea of manslaught­er by way of diminished responsibi­lity was accepted by the prosecutio­n. He also admitted the attempted murder of his ex-wife.

The 63-year-old had not previously entered pleas because he was being assessed by psychiatri­sts.

He strangled Olivia Kray, 19, at Westlands Caravan Park on Friday, July 21.

The teenager, described by a friend as a “beautiful young lady”, died at the scene, opposite Canterbury Garden Centre, in Herne Common.

Kray tried to kill his ex-wife Damyantee Cowan, who is in her early 60s, by strangling her at her home in Gordon Road, Herne Bay, the same day.

A previous hearing was told Kray was not fit to be interviewe­d following his arrest.

Kray, who has been detained in the Trevor Gibbens psychiatri­c unit at Maidstone Hospital, was due to be sentenced on Monday.

But a judge at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday agreed to delay sentencing until February 2 to allow the preparatio­n of a further psychiatri­c report.
