Sentencing date set for man who killed his own daughter

A father who admitting killing his daughter at a caravan park near Canterbury will be sentenced in two weeks’ time.

Richard Kray denied murder and his plea of manslaughter by way of diminished responsibility was accepted by the prosecution. He also admitted the attempted murder of his ex-wife.

The 63-year-old had not previously entered pleas because he was being assessed by psychiatrists.

He strangled Olivia Kray, 19, at Westlands Caravan Park on Friday, July 21.

The teenager, described by a friend as a “beautiful young lady”, died at the scene, opposite Canterbury Garden Centre, in Herne Common.

Kray tried to kill his ex-wife Damyantee Cowan, who is in her early 60s, by strangling her at her home in Gordon Road, Herne Bay, the same day.

A previous hearing was told Kray was not fit to be interviewed following his arrest.

Kray, who has been detained in the Trevor Gibbens psychiatric unit at Maidstone Hospital, was due to be sentenced on Monday.

But a judge at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday agreed to delay sentencing until February 2 to allow the preparation of a further psychiatric report.
