Thanks to hospital staff for their care

-

I write to express my happiness with the caring, kindness and love shown to my husband Gerald during his stay with the QEQM Hospital in Margate.

Some eight weeks prior to his admission via A&E, Gerry had been diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, liver metastases, and three emboli in his lungs.

In total, he suffered three strokes, the first of which left him partially sighted, and he was able to be cared for by myself at home.

The second stroke saw him admitted as above to the hospital’s stroke unit, where the care was unbelievably wonderful.

The third stroke saw him lose all speech and myself and his family realised his life would soon be over. We were allowed to stay with him, and towards his death, he was transferred to a side ward. The privacy was greatly appreciated by us all, as were the cups of tea etc, offered by the kitchen staff.

Gerry had his 82nd birthday a week before his death, and he enjoyed the rendering of Happy Birthday sung to him by the staff who were on duty that day. A

very special moment for us all.

Unfortunately, many people enjoy complaining. I want to praise the dedication of the team who work so hard in the stroke unit of this hospital.

During my time spent with Gerry I was able to observe how most of the people who had suffered strokes were given rehabilitation treatment, with the end result they returned home within a few days, mostly able to resume their normal lives, all due to the perseverance and dedication of the physiotherapists, occupational therapists and of course, nursing and auxiliary nursing staff.
