Conquer tough 50km challenge for hospices
Sponsored hike will follow two routes and raise money for worthy cause
Details of a new sponsored hike to raise money for the Pilgrims Hospices later this year have been confirmed.
The Pilgrims Way Challenge will take place on Saturday, June 9, and raise money for the hospices in Canterbury, Margate and Ashford.
There will be two routes – one a 25km challenge which takes walkers from Wye, near Ashford, to Canterbury. A longer route, then takes walkers from Canterbury through to Dover to complete a 50km trek.
The route follows the Pilgrims Way to the city and then onward via the North Downs Way to finish besides Dover Castle.
A spokesman explained: “Along the way you’ll pass through ancient woodland, rolling fields and charming villages, as well as a few challenging climbs through the undulating geography of the Garden of England. With two challenge distances to choose from it’s perfect for people of all fitness levels.
“It’s tough but achievable and with some training and determination, anyone can conquer it.”
The charity, which provides palliative care across east Kent both at their hospices and at home, is encouraging families, friends and colleagues to take part. All those competing will receive a finisher’s medal when they cross the line.
There will be regular rest stops with drinks and snacks, a fully-signed route, event T-shirt and a hot meal at the Canterbury Hospice which will form the halfway point for 50km participants.
To register and find out more information visit www.pilgrimshospices.org.
It costs £25 to take part for those registering before April 29. After that it will cost £30.
