Girl power rules annual drive-in
Faversham Golf Club ladies’ captain Esther DurwardAkhurst outdrove her male counterpart during the annual drive-in on Sunday.
On an unusually sunny day for this event, around 60 members were in attendance to watch Durward-akhurst and club captain Mick Streatfield hit their first shots in office.
It would appear that nerves got the better of Streatfield as he was comprehensively outdriven, much to the amusement of the crowd but not those who had a guess at the distance the drives would be. The normal mixed social foursomes event took place afterwards and won by Ginny Wilson and Roger Flegg from Margaret Fullager and Jim Connolly.
Both pairs had 27 points but Wilson and Flegg won on countback.
The captains unveiled their names on the Honours Board while diners enjoyed a meal which was the culmination of a long weekend.
Nigel Stevenson took home the honours in St Stephen’s Golf Society’s first event of 2018.
Stevenson, with a 22 handicap, carded 40 points to win the event at Westgate and Birchington Golf Club on Sunday.
Countback was required to separate second to fifth place as all finished on 38 points.
Alex Mcbeth came second, Andy Oxberry was third, Paul Sequenza was fourth and Royston Gough fifth.
This was also the first match in charge for newly-elected club captain Karl Robson.
