Herne Bay Lawn Tennis Club’s men’s 3rds enjoyed a 4-0 win at St Johns in Kent League Division 10B. Bay’s first pair of Colin Thompson and Dave Lawrence did well to overcome St John’s first pair 6-4, 6-3 and beat their second pair, only losing three games. Bryan Packham and Robbie Benka proved too strong for the hosts’ second pair before taking on the St John’s first pair and edging the final rubber 7-6, 7-5. Bay are currently second in the league. The mixed 2nds maintained their lead at the top of Division 4B with a 3-1 win at Margate. Anne Gibbs and Graham Miles lost their first rubber in straight sets but won their second in championship tie-break. Second pair Nicola Mileham and Dan Walker won both their rubbers by championship tie-break. The men’s Vets are still top of Division 2A after wins against Beckenham Vets 2nds and Bromley Wendover 2nds. There was an impressive 4-0 win for the ladies’ over60s midweek team in Division 1. Diana High and Kay Mileham and Tui Thain and Isobel Warnock won their matches against Blackheath and have consolidated their midtable position. The ladies’ Vets 1sts had a narrow defeat to Sevenoaks Vets 1sts in Division 1A. Nicola Mileham and Kay Mileham won their opening rubber by championship tie-break and had a straight sets win in their second. Anne Gibbs and Sue Toye lost both of their rubbers meaning it was 2-2 but Sevenoaks took the match 5-4 in sets. In the Deal Indoor League, the men’s 1sts had a 4-0 win against Broadstairs 1sts. Pairings were Ben Keighley-alex Kazekeos and Matt Newman-dan Sharp. The Men’s 2 also had a 4-0 win against Hythe 2nds thanks to good wins from Colin Thompson-rob Catterick and Gary Smith-jason Hollingsworth.
