Parish Community Grant: Council approved a Parish Community Grant grant of £772.to Chilham Parish Recreation Ground Trust Borough Report: Giving his report to the parish council’s December meeting Borough Councillor Stephen Dehnel covered the following matters:1) WW1 commemorat­ion in Ashford; 2) The Snowdogs trail; 3) Placemakin­g in Ashford which is the developmen­t of the Town Centre; 4) Update on the progress of the major Projects, Junction 10A, Outlet Centre, Elwick Road Cinema and restaurant complex and Victoria Road; 5) Unveiling of the statue of Queen Marie of Romania on December12 and 6) opening of Elwick Place on December 15. Refuse: Over the Christmas holiday period refuse collection­s in Chilham parish will be up to two days later than normal: Thursday December 27 will be on Saturday December 29, Thursday January 3 will be on Saturday 5, January 10 will be only a day late on January 11. Normal collection­s resume in the week beginning January 14. Permit: Ashford Borough Council has permitted Demolition of the existing garage and erection of 2 new dwellings within the grounds of the existing house, with associated amenities at Noveis, Canterbury Road, Chilham. Tree Competitio­n: The parish had been Highly Commended in the 2018 Trees in the Village Competitio­n: Council expressed its thanks to the tree warden for the time spent with the judges and asked the clerk to investigat­e displaying the certificat­e in Chilham post office. 100 Club: 100 Plus Club winners on Friday December 14 were first prize, £50 Lyam Nevin, second prize, £15 Margaret Goodall and third, £10 Claire Teasdale. Chilham FC: After not playing football for 2 weeks due to the wet weather Chilham played their last game in 2018 at home to Faversham’s The Bull in the Whitstable Charity Cup and unfortunat­ely lost 2–5. The Bull raced to a 3–0 lead in the first 20 minutes, Chilham pulled one back when John Pilcher scored on the half hour but the Bull scored again just before half time. The Bull increased their lead to 5–1, Leon Baker scored for Chilham in the 65th minute and although Chilham had several more chances to score they were unable to put them away. Chilham now have 2 weeks off as the league closes for the Christmas Holiday Bowls: On Monday December 10 John Turton, Jim Stanford and Chris Bradley won by 14 points to 4, but Joan and Martin Ingram and Michelle Elvidge lost by 22 points to 7. The return fixture on 12 at Wingham saw Chilham lose both matches to the home teams. Michael Gray, Jim Stanford and Chris Bradley were beaten by 16 points to 6, while Liz and Alastair Baker and Martin Ingram lost by 24 points to 9. Neighbourh­ood Watch: Village Warden, Alan Willson, whilst wishing a merry Christmas to residents, reminds folk not to drink and drive, but to remember that it is the families left behind who suffer most and those that have lasting injuries so if you are going out to drink, leave the vehicle at home. A thank you from the village to Bob Lind and the band for staging a free music evening at the village hall in aid of extra funding for the village defibrilla­tor. The grand sum of £283 was raised which was stupendous for the numbers that attended. School News: This busy term ended with the infant nativity ‘Hey Ewe’, Christmas maths morning, Christingl­e service in St Mary’s, Christmas lunch and a pantomime. Eastling Primary School term three starts on Thursday January 3. There are a few spaces available across the school for an immediate start. Any prospectiv­e parents looking for a Reception place for September 2019 are welcome to call the office on 01795 890252 to arrange a visit.
