Football Club: Saturday January 5 Chilham FC resumed their season after the Christmas break away to Faversham United in the Canterbury Charity Cup and lost the game 2-0. With both teams looking like they had not played for a while, it was Chilham who played the better football in the first half but no goals scored. In the second half Chilham again created more chances, then on the 60th minute, Faversham took the lead and then scored again in the 75th minute. Try as they might Chilham were unable in put the ball in the net. Saturday January 19, Chilham played Littlebour­ne at home and lost the league game 3–1. Chilham took the lead through a Ben Walsh goal. January 26, Chilham were home to Lokomotive in a league game. PARISH COUNCIL: Objected. The parish council has objected to a planning applicatio­n for Land at rear of Myrtle Cottage and Beauwell, Bowerland Lane, Old Wives Lees for Erection of 5-bed detached house with separate garage, parking, amenity space and garden landscapin­g with the following comments: 1) The design is obtrusive and out of keeping with the locality 2) Access is dangerous due to limited visibility and turning space into / out of Bowerland Lane 3) The size of plot quoted in the applicatio­n is significan­tly incorrect, it is nearer 0.065 hectare and not 0.9 hectare 4) If consent was given, conditions should be imposed to (a) re-site the telegraph pole that is situated in the proposed access; (b) ensure existing access is maintained for neighbours; (c) provide a turning space for refuse vehicles. PARISH COUNCIL: A paper proposing an approach to this years community engagement had been publicised with the January.agenda. Following considerat­ion, Council agreed to: 1) Compile a set of questions to collect parishione­r feedback for inclusion in the CAMP. 2) Consider whether there are other important matters that should be covered in PQT2019 so that a draft questionna­ire and proposal for PQT2019 can be considered at its February meeting using the same sengagemen­t approach as in 2018 and emphasise the ability to respond online. Flooding Issues: Annie Thurgarlan­d, KCC Flood Management, has visited the area and has requested informatio­n regarding land ownership and water flows. The Council will continue to monitor the maintenanc­e of the existing drainage infrastruc­ture. Speed Watch: Speed Watch resumed after the Christmas break and the team has one less member who has moved out of the village. Further volunteers are being sought to help with the session and training will be given. If you would like to be involved in this important work please contact Cllr Fraser for details. Finance: The Precept for 2019-20 has been set at £8732 and will be £38.04 for band D properties which is the same as 2018-19. Neighbourh­ood Watch: Some flocks of sheep in the local fields now have their young lambs so village warden, Alan Willson, emphasises the importance of keeping all dogs on leads in their vicinity and making sure that dogs cannot escape from their homes to create carnage amongst the sheep. Farmers do have the authority to shoot any animal attacking or causing nuisance to their sheep and the owner may face criminal charges. Pam Bell passed away recently. Pam endured her health problems with great fortitude for many years but was always cheerful and resolute, it was a pleasure to be able to call her a friend Funeral is in Church, 11am, Friday February 22. Local History Society: Thursday February 14, 8pm, Charing hall, James Dickinson will give a talk entitled William the Conqueror, justified invader? Doors open 7.30pm, visitors welcome, £3 each.

Tuesday February 12, there will be a cheque presentati­on to the Air Ambulance of £250 in appreciati­on of their help in air lifting Jeanette’s nephew after he had an accident. Please come and support us. Greenhill Senior Citizens: Everyone who has seen Steve Terry before will be pleased he is back on Saturday February 9. Members £7, guests £9. Tickets sell out quickly so please check at the club, there might not be many left for either guests or members. The Hoy/bingo sessions have been proving very popular so there will be more arranged. Likewise the board games & cards afternoon. These will be twice monthly, mainly on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday. The next one is Tuesday February 19. Saturday February 16 is a Bowls afternoon. Food 12.30pm, bowling to start approx. 1pm. The Social Calendar for 2019 is being organized as you read this. Two holiday dates have been booked, April and November, so if you have enjoyed these holidays before and want to go again then get you booking in soon as places fill up very quickly. Peter Warre our long standing quiz master has decided to retire and put his feet up. Two club members have offered their sevices in future, Paul Browning for the March Quiz and Dave Coombs in October. More details nearer the time. Also the club is awaiting the fitting of new external signs to go up as the current ones are looking a bit tatty. St. Peters Church: Little Fishes, there are two more sessions before half term, Friday February 8 and Feb- ruary 15, 9.30am-12pm. It will resume Friday March 1, after the half term break. Saturday February 16 is Messy Church, 4-6pm. Games, craft making songs and stories and a hot meal at the end. All are welcome, parents, carers and children. Briary School: The school would like to say a very big thank you to the Friends of Briary School for all their hard work, fund raising and to all the local businesses who have donated raffle prizes etc. Thursday January 31, the school took delivery of their brand new minibus. Also thanks go to all the children, parents, carers and grandparen­ts who have made this dream finally happen. Greenhill PACT Group: The next PACT meeting is Monday February 11, 7pm, Briary School.
