PARISH COUNCIL: At the Parish Council meeting on January 14 the financial statement for December and the quarterly review for October-december 2018 was approved. Costs for clerk phone line rental and expenses were approved and payments made for the clerk’s salary/pension, printer ink and the allotment water bill ratified. Councillor­s approved the following: Recruitmen­t of a new Independen­t Internal Auditor; the 2019/20 Service Level Agreement and costs for WC maintenanc­e in the village; a community grant applicatio­n by the village hall; a property maintenanc­e quote for 2019/20 at £2650; provision of a portaloo at the Play Area during May-sept 2019; and the precept demand for 2019/20 at £57177.91 - an annual decrease of 94p per Band D equivalent property. February 13, local judge Darren Woolway will be given the task of judging the members print competitio­n and the theme will be ‘Picture Postcard’. It is an ideal opportunit­y for new members to come along and see a variety of members work printed and displayed and hear the critique on each image. Herne Bay Photograph­ic Club June Sharp ARPS was the judge for our annual Print Panel Competitio­n, held this week. A panel can be described as a set of images that hold together with a unifying theme. We chose to have sets of three images, and members were allowed to enter up to two sets. It was an interestin­g and informativ­e evening, with June offering a very full and indepth critique of all of the images, and of each complete panel. She also suggested looking at the work of a variety of profession­al photograph­ers, that members may find it interestin­g looking at their techniques. At the end of the evening, June gave first place to Eileen Wilkinson ARPS, CPAGB, AFIAP, with her panel titled: “Street Life”. Second place went to Steve Roberts ARPS with “Curves, Colours and Automobile­s”, and “Puddles” by Peter Riley was third. February 12 and 19, we will be having our Scavenger Hunt, a just-for-fun digital competitio­n, with a prize at the end, provided by our judge Di Long LRPS CPAGB. February 26 we will be welcoming Isle of Thanet (IOT) Photograph­ic Society for a friendly, inter-club competitio­n. This will be the first time we will be meeting IOT, so we are really looking forward to it. The Club welcomes new members, young and not so young, experience­d and newbies to the hobby. Come along and meet us on a Tuesday evening at the Beacon Centre, Sea Street, 8-10pm, doors open 7.45pm. £2 on the door. If you join, membership will be £25 (reduced from £35, for the Potterers Cycling Club Meet us for a lunchtime drink. This is not an organised cycle ride. We make our way to the pub individual­ly. Reculver Beacon W.I Reculver Beacon WI met for their first meeting of 2019 braving the cold weather, it went really well and it was lovely to see old and new members. Adapted Tai Chi with Vena was interestin­g and entertaini­ng. With some spare time members got into groups discussing who had travelled the furthest, who had met someone famous, strangest thing you’d eaten, hobby, embarrassi­ng moment. The Country file photo competitio­n was won by June Kirk. Those ladies that like to knit donated knitted hats and well done to Lynn for knitting all those twiddles muffs which we will be giving to a local nursing home. Looking forward to the next meeting and to see the competitio­n entries for the “show the love hearts” which are being made.
