December 21 attracted a number of festive people to sing carols on the Green in Preston.thank you to everyone who came and celebrated Christmas in our community in so many different ways. Membership for 2018/19 100 club season is underway with numbers being issued at £10 each. Members are welcome to hold more than one number. Hopefully committee members will be able to persuade more members to join for the 2018/19 100 club as new members are always welcome. Please contact 01227 752301 or any committee member. Monthly members are shown in The Parish Magazine. The village hall has a recycling clothing, bedding, curtains and shoes receptacle at the hall for hall funds. Please support this new venture of fund raising by using the bin installed in the car park at the village hall. Items are requested to be bagged and shoes in pairs. Grant: The annual ‘You Decide’ event was held at Teynham village hall, Saturday February 2. We were on of 18 bidders for grants from Cllr Andrew Bowles member’s fund. We are very pleased that we were successful with our bid of £733 for new lighting to the hall with heritage style lamp shades and LED bulbs which will be more economical and environmentally friendly. They will replace the fluorescent strip lights in the hall which are in need of replacement. There were 74 people attending to vote which took place using electronic voting pads. It is a good event, even if not making a bid and just 3 Councillors choose to give their funding in this way. Thanks go to our committee members who were able to attend the event to support the bid. Gardeners Association: The new programme is available to members. A coach trip to Wisley RHS Gardens, Tuesday June 4 has been organised leaving from Selling village car park, 9.30am, arriving at Wisley approx. 11am. Nayara will be joining later this month when she also comes on from Rainbows at 7. Sadly 2 of our 4 weeks meetings since Christmas have been cancelled due to a heating problem and icy roads giving concern for the safety of girls to or from the hall. We plan to attend the Up The Creek pantomime later this month in Faversham and Division Thinking Day event after half term. Church: Sadly Selling Church had unwanted visitors last Thursday when they helped themselves to lead from the Church roof causing water to cascade inside the Church after the snow melted and heavy rain set in. It was made more of a disaster as Friday was the Thanksgiving service and funeral for Jenny Duncan, a much loved resident of the village and Lay minister. Her funeral service was marred by the constant dripping from the leaks. Rev’d Peter Newell, our new Benefice vicar, was licensed and installed on Wednesday February 6 at Sheldwich Church by the Bishop of Dover and Archdeacon of Maidstone. Bells were rung prior to the service and groups from the Benefice personally welcomed him. We hope he and his family will be happy in their new role and home. If you have an item concerning Sheldwich, please contact the correspondent above.
