EIGHT-YEAR-OLD RACER’S FLEDGLING CAREER GOING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH Jayden a boy in a hurry Karting
Karter Jayden Sherwood may only be eight but he’s already proved he’s not one for standing still.
After multiple podiums during his debut year in 2017, the Aylesham youngster started the following season in the BKC National Championship.
Riding in the bambino class for six-to-eight-year-olds the Wingham Primary School pupil won the first six heats in a row to lead the championship by 33 points, before pulling out to move up to the next class at the age of just seven (Cadet class for 8-13-year-olds).
His father Tim admitted it was a bit of gamble to make the move but explained that Jayden’s sponsors Hydratem8 and Harwood Building Control have been fully supportive.
He explained: “Despite being the championship leader, Jayden wanted to progress his learning with the much heavier and faster Honda Cadet karts, which hit 60mph.
“At the time we were worried we may lose our sponsors, as instead of racing nationally and giving them publicity on live streamed races and post race interviews, we were now only practising at our local track to get used to the faster kart, and waiting until he reached eight so that he was permitted to race at our home track, Lydd kart circuit.
“To our amazement both Hydratem8 and Harwood Building Control stuck by Jayden during this time, and fully supported his decision to progress his learning, which we really appreciated.
“Going into 2019 both companies have renewed their sponsorship, which is going to enable us to fight for the title in the BKC National Championship, in the Honda Cadet class.
“We have also recently secured 2019 sponsorship from Raptor Custom Racewear and Wright Racing Team, who will be providing us with their professional kart set-up support and driver coaching.”
Later this month Jayden will travel to Spain for the BKC Championship’s three- day Winter Cup – a trip again made possible by his sponsors.
