FOOTBALL Come from behind win extends run Strike Force

-

Faversham Strike Force extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the Kent County League Premier Division following a 2-1 victory at Fleetdown United on Saturday. In difficult, blustery conditions they started well and could have taken the lead through Dinu Catalin’s shot, from Radi Davidoff’s through ball, but his effort was tipped over. They fashioned a number of chances but were hit by a sucker punch just before the interval and went in a goal down. The Force refused to fold and they were rewarded with a penalty soon afterwards as youngster Adam Benfield – later named man of the match – carried the ball 50 yards only to be brought down in the opponents’ box. Tom Axford converted to level matters. Gary Axford’s side continued to dominate, with Connor Ashman superb in midfield and the back four solid, while substitute Jordan Simpson added crucial width. A deserved winner came finally when Tom Holmes’ free-kick clipped a Fleetdown defender and evaded the keeper, much to the delight of the Force manager. “This was a good win for us,” said Axford. “It was a strong all-round performance, in tricky conditions, and means we climb the table to consolidate our position in the top half.” n Adesh Smith scored his first goal for the Force’s under-9 Lightning team, against Chartham Sports. Charlie-jack Hodgson opened the scoring, while Archie Brazil also found the net with a cross-come-shot. The Thunder side saw Charlie Frankham score with a header from a corner, also against Chartham. Man-of-the-match Fletch Green was solid in goal in the first half before switching position and scoring from outside the box. Under-8 Thunder travelled to Herne Bay Harriers and put in their best team performance. Goals came from from Dexter Willmott, Connor Pritchard and Ethan Whelan. Eli Monger, Albert Biscoe and Henry Gossling all netted twice for under-8 Lightning against Deal. Ollie Gilbert Childs also scored. Under-8 Hurricanes were also on good form, against Ramsgate Youth. Oliver Ladd, Evan Pender and Alex Debowski scored their goals.
