Pair double up in victory Bostik South East round-up

-

Dave King and Liam King both scored twice as Faversham eased their relegation fears with a 4-1 win over Greenwich.

The Lilywhites have now won three of their last four games to move nine points clear of rockbottom Borough.

Cook gave them a 13th-minute lead at Salters Lane but with the score only 1-0 at half-time, it was still all to play for.

However, when one pass split the Greenwich defence on 56 minutes, King beat the offside trap and slid the ball under goalkeeper Oliver Webber.

Two minutes later, it was 3-0. Webber pushed Ashley Miller’s shot straight to Cook, who fired into the roof of the net from six yards.

Greenwich quickly pulled a goal back when Danny Divine put through his own net but it wasn’t the start of a comeback.

Instead, Faversham wrapped things up seven minutes from time when Miller unselfishly squared for man-of-the-match King to double his tally from close-range.

Herne Bay remain in deep trouble after they conceded a late winner at Haywards Heath.

It was a game of two contrasting halves in Sussex, where Bay started well and deservedly took the lead five minutes before the break.

Good work between Bradley Schafer and Jake Embery on the edge of the box created space for Tom Carlton to sidefoot the ball past keeper Joshua Heyburn.

But the visitors gave the ball away too cheaply in the second half and spent long periods inside their own half.

Fifth-placed Heath, who are chasing a play-off spot, equalised 20 minutes from time when Alex Laing nipped in front of his marker to head home a free-kick.

Herne Bay were under siege now and the pressure told when substitute Tom Graves headed past Simon Overland from a corner in the 89th minute.

The defeat was Bay’s third in a row during which time they have conceded 13 goals.

By then Bay’s Raphe Brown had been forced off by a back problem while Alex MulrooneySkinner stayed on despite being hampered by a similar complaint.

At the Belmont, Whitstable came from behind to draw 1-1 with high-flying Hastings.

Sloppy play by the Oystermen led to the opening goal, with Jordy Mongoy cleverly lifting the ball over Dan Eason after being left unmarked on the wing.

Whitstable came into the game after the break and were level when Jordan Wright’s free-kick clipped the post and flew in.

Tom Walmsley went close for the home side, although Eason did well to deny Mongoy a winning goal at the other end.

A late tackle from Stuart West sparked a stoppage-time melee which saw Town’s Ricky Freeman and opponent Temi Eweka dismissed as both teams finished with 10 men.
