Love blooms for Orlando and Katy

- David Kemsley Cowdrey Place, Canterbury

Actor Orlando Bloom is to tie the knot with pop star Katy Perry.

Following a Valentine’s Day proposal, the 42-year-old from Canterbury took to Instagram to share a picture of himself and his fiancée posing with a pink diamond engagement ring.

The news was originally broken on Facebook by Perry’s mother, Mary Hudson, who shared photos of her daughter with the caption “look who got engaged”.

Having previously been married to Australian model Miranda Kerr - with whom he has a son - Bloom will get hitched for the second time.

The Hollywood star, who has an honorary degree from the University of Kent and grew up in Canterbury, started dating the Firework singer in January 2016.

The couple went their separate ways the following year, but reunited in December 2017 and have been together ever since.

n I was interested to read the letter from the representative of the developers in which he stated that 30% of the housing would be affordable.

Apart from wondering who would purchase the remaining 70%, I am curious as to the ratio between the affordable homes and average incomes in this area.

I also noted that mention of social housing was conspicuous by its absence. I found the rather triumphal tone of the comment on the legal challenge distasteful.

Local residents have genuine concerns about the environmental impact of this development which will not be allayed by a highly technical legal judgement.

In 2016 the local community was so worried about issues of air quality and traffic congestion being airily brushed off by the developer in its haste to secure planning approval that funds were raised to commission an independent traffic survey which in large part disproved the developers’ claims of minimal impact. Indeed, that public concern was maintained throughout 2017 and 2018 with very generous contributions to the legal fund.

I had hoped now for a rather more conciliatory and sensitive approach by the developer to community consultation, but evidently not if this letter is anything to go by.
