Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District

Second vote best way to get clarity

- Pam Brazier (no relation) Throwley Drive, Herne Bay

It is not often disagree with Julian Brazier but I believe that he is profoundly mistaken in his letter to the Gazette on February 21 [‘MP disregarding democratic vote’].

Our Prime Minster has come back from Brussels with an agreement which is better than anyone was expecting and in which the EU has been far more generous than we were led to believe was possible, but this agreement is a million miles from what the Leave campaign was promising. This is amply demonstrated by the almost universal opposition to the agreement by the leaders of the Leave campaign.

In UK general elections, politicians are expected to deliver on what they promised and long may this continue. However, it is abundantly clear that this agreement does not do that. It may well be the best agreement possible but it is not what was promised.

The only legitimate way to proceed is to put this agreement to another referendum so that it is clear exactly what is being proposed. To continue as Julian proposes is to promise one n How refreshing to read the letter from Sir Julian Brazier supporting the views of us ‘Leavers’. How we miss his sound knowledge, experience and expertise.

He always worked so hard for the people of Canterbury. We are largely misrepresented by politicians and the media, and it was truly refreshing to have it reaffirmed that there are still some good guys out there attempting diligently to save our democracy.
