Families packed out Boughton under Blean Village Hall on Saturday for the Lord Whisky Sanctuary Fund’s popular Fur, Feather and Exotic Exhibition.

From feeding sock lambs to getting up close with tarantulas, children had the chance to meet, pet and learn from experts about an array of unusual animals.

A spotted owl, budgies, parrots and chickens were also among the feathered friends who came along for the day.

A line-up of craft stalls and locally produced food, jams, honey, and wines from Ulley Vineyard also helped draw crowds in for the event, totalling around 600 people by the end of the afternoon.

Another highlight was an appearance by actress Pam Ferris, who plays Sister Evangelina in Call the Midwife, who came along to judge a small animal pet show.

Margaret Todd, the founder of Lord Whisky Animal Sanctuary, said the event was “magical”.

“It was really, really lovely. People just kept arriving throughout the day and really enjoyed themselves, as did the stallholders and the animals,” she said.

Kent animal rescue charities Birdline Rescue and Hartley Owls also came along for the day.

The event raised a total of £1,000 for the Park House Animal Sanctuary, which is based in Stelling Minnis near Canterbury.
