Nearly 200 people came to walk in the grounds during the unseasonab­le warm weather to admire the historic double snowdrops. Charlton Park owner Gubby Wales was delighted to announce a profit of £469 had been raised for the funds of St Mary’s Church.

Charity Quiz: The monthly quiz held at The Royal Oak, Monday February 18 raised £68 for the RSPB. The total now raised for local and national charities is £17,562. The next quiz will be held Monday March 18, 8pm, entry only £2 per person, come as a team, or come individual­ly and you will be welcome to join a team on the night. If you are able to help, please come to the play park, Chestfield Road, 10.30am, weather permitting. The council will arrange for high-viz jackets and litter picking equipment etc. to be available. The pick will last no more than a couple of hours. Chestfield Annual Meeting: The Annual Electors meeting for Chestfield residents, Monday March 25, 7.30pm, WI hall, Chestfield Road. Come and hear the annual reports from your local societies and local organisati­ons, together with the parish council Chairman’s annual report. Chestfield History Society: At the moment our members are researchin­g the emergence of Swalecliff­e since the 17th century, local schooling, which goes back to Roman times, the Pout and Silk families in the last two centuries, and the Copperas industry. The Parish Council has agreed to support us getting copies of archived Chestfield materials currently held in Maidstone and we will be visiting the Maidstone Archive Centre in March to identify what can be usefully reproduced. Finally we hope to be designing murals for the new play area opposite Polo Way later this year (subject to Canterbury City Council’s agreement).
