has unfortunately sold out, but we are continuing to take orders and hope to gain sufficient numbers to produce a second edition. The new major work by one of our members, Peter Yarlett, “An Historical Portrait of Swalecliffe”, is a large scale work, that achieves a high standard both in terms of detailed use of sources and use of illustrations, especially of historical maps. We plan to support its publication if external funding is not available. We circulate our monthly meetings around members’ houses and find plenty to discuss, although research and writing is done by individuals or small groups. If you are interested in projects that involve photography, recording oral history, family history or local research, come to a meeting and contact us at chestfieldhistory@gmail.com Chestfield WI: Meets in the WI Hall, Chestfield Road, on the second Wednesday of every month, 2-4pm. Ashford Borough Council is leading the way with a year of events, campaigns and initiatives. Under our ‘clean’ theme we want to support a big campaign to get people out and about cleaning up their local communities throughout March and April 2019. The campaign has expanded, so instead of just one weekend, it’s now on for a whole month, March 22-April 23. We’ll be hosting our own litter pick, Saturday March 23, inviting all to join in and celebrate collaborative action in making our environment cleaner, safer and more attractive. We want to encourage all parishes, villages, community groups and keen individuals to join in and host/join litter picks in your local area. We’ll be creating an interactive online map of the borough highlighting all litter picks taking place throughout the month for an easy and visual way to let people find their nearest one and to promote how proactive our borough is being. If you are organising your own litter picking event to support the Spring Clean, we would love to hear from you. We’ll support you as much as we can and promote your activities on our social media, a press release and on our new interactive map. We aim to have the map full of litter bin pinpoints, detailing the locations, dates and times of each pick, the busier we can make it, the better. We may be able to assist with providing litter picking equipment to help with your event such as gloves, bags, litter pickers and a risk assessment guide that you can edit to suit your requirements. If you are interested in obtaining this equipment or need help with disposal of litter then please complete the attached community litter pick documentation and get back to us by March 10. We are in a much better position this year to spread our equipment out over the month, so will be able to accommodate for more picks.
