Point-to-point

-

Godstone hosts the first of its pointto-point meetings for the 2019 season on Sunday where the area’s pony racing series also gets under way with two races before the point-to-point races. The opening race on the card is the Conditions race for nine-year-olds and over and has attracted a bumper entry which includes Cynthia Woods trained Glint Of Steel who, at the age of 13, finished third in his reappearance at Charing two weeks ago. The restricted race sees a wealth of entries from outside the area but Cynthia Woods will be hoping to provide a local success with Dontdillydally who ran in mid January and finished third. The point-to-point gets under way at 1pm with pony racing scheduled for 11.45am. Gates open at 10.30am and admission is £12 per person with accompanying under-16s admitted free. The course can be found just off of junction 6 of the M25, the postcode for sat-navs is RH9 8DB.

Craig Boyne was pleased to see Canterbury carry their hard work behind-the-scenes into Saturday’s 4-3 win over Old Loughtonians, writes Cameron Hogwood.

The victory put the men’s first team level on 23 points with third-placed Southgate and just two behind second-placed Oxted in Conference East.

With five wins in their last six games across all competitions, Canterbury are now eyeing a strong finish over the second half of the campaign.

Player-coach Boyne said: “It was a good performance. It was nice that we got a really good buffer to get to 3-0 ahead and that some of the things we’ve been practising have been really coming out in the games.”

“We can’t take any more points off Southgate than we already have, we’ve taken six off them.

“For us, the theme this week is nailing out the consistency of the basics’
