Home Secretary Sajid Javid had a “dog ate my homework” moment when he appeared before MPS to answer questions about migrant boats landing on the Kent coast.

The MPS on the home affairs select committee had expected the minister to bring with him details of the number of boats that had landed. Instead, he brought with him details of the number of people.

Cue a severe dressing down from committee chairman Yvette Cooper, who said she was “baffled, astonished and surprised” given that the committee had made clear exactly what was wanted the previous day.

Not before the MP grabbed a screenshot of the offending post “so everyone can know the sort of thing Dover Labour Party is supporting these days”.

n Former Ukip leader Nigel Farage might not come across as someone who is particularly concerned about green issues but it seems he once voted for the Green party. Yes, it’s true - he made the confession on his radio show, explaining that at the time the Green party was the only one with an explicit commitment to leave the EU. That was back in 1989. How times change.

n Want to know about Kent’s emergency plan to cope in the event of a no-deal Brexit? You won’t have to wait much longer. The Kent Resilience Forum has agreed to publish a version of its plans and advice on what people should do in certain circumstances. The decision is partly being attributed to pressure from county councillors who have argued that as the county in the Brexit frontline, it would be a little odd not to put anything at all in the public domain.
