School: This term the school has welcomed a new head teacher Mrs Hickman who has taken over this role. Mrs Cummins will continue teaching Snowdrop class as well as being the SENCO. Mrs Coombs has been running lunchtime drop in sessions, for any children that may want to chat about any issues they have. Children have made worry boxes which have been placed around the school. If you have a child who is starting school this year rising fours is Tuesdays, 2-3pm. Please contact the school for more details. PARISH COUNCIL : Next meeting will be held Monday March 11, 7pm, village hall. Household and food waste will be collected Friday March 8 and 22. Recycling, garden waste and food waste will be collected Friday March 15 and 29. A calendar can be requested from Serco. Library Van: This will be outside the school, Friday March 8 and 22, 1-1.45pm. My Rural: A wide range of animal activities for families, groups and individual­s. Different themes and animals available. All include a site tour and hands-on time holding and feeding the animals. Catching Lives: Thursday March 14, the speaker at the B w K Women’s Institute meeting will be James Duff who will be talking about “Catching Lives” an organisati­on which cares for homeless young people in Canterbury and other parts of Kent. The meeting will take place Barham village hall, 2.30pm. History Society: This month’s Archive morning takes place Friday March 15, 10am-12pm, village hall. Come along and bring any photos of interest connected with Barham’s past, or get help in identifyin­g dates or people. The March meeting will be a talk on “The First Brexit” by Andy Linklater. This will be a public meeting and is in Kingston Barn, Wednesday March 20, 7.30pm. Tickets on door £5 for visitors, £3 for members. Litter Pick: There will be a working party on Saturday March 16 (weather permitting) starting from Barham village hall, 2pm. The pick should last no more than two hours and soup and hot drinks will be provided. She thanked Gubby Wales for organising the Snowdrop Walk at Charlton Park that raised £475 for Church funds, to which should be added £45 from a make-up demonstrat­ion by Olwen Shaw. With work being carried out in St John’s Church, Barham, services there will have to be transferre­d to other churches in the Barham Downs Group. March 10, the first Sunday of Lent, there will be the following services: 11am, combined Communion for Barham and Adisham, Holy Innocents, Adisham; also 11am, family Communion, St Giles’s, Kingston. Looking Ahead: Coffee morning and sale will be held in the Conrad Hall, Saturday April 13, 10am-12pm. Donations to stalls and raffle will be greatly appreciate­d.

There will be stalls, tombola, raffle and many other things, including wonderful cakes, teas and coffees plus a home-made lunch. Come along and join the fun. Blean Gardeners: At the meeting on Thursday, February 28, the Chairman, William Leetham, advised that the President’s Challenge, a Dwarf Dahlia Tuber, would be available at the next meeting on Thursday March 28. The guest presenter, Hugh Ragget, then showed an interestin­g film of the many achievemen­ts of Sir Thomas Hanbury, notably the La Mortola garden in the south of France along with many acts of philanthro­py. Part two of this story will be shown at the July meeting. Commencing with the Spring Social, all meetings will start 7.30pm until the autumn.
