ROUND-UP: REDMAN’S HEROICS PAVE THE WAY FOR COMEBACK VICTORY

-

Canterbury’s 2nd team enjoyed a winning weekend, beating Reading’s 2nd team 4-3.

Paddy Brookson made it 1-0 early on but their lead didn’t last long as Reading converted a penalty corner.

The teams scored a goal apiece to head into the break at 2-2, with Michael Farrer on the scoresheet for Canterbury following his penalty corner flick.

Reading then gained the lead against the run of play and would have been further ahead had it not been for the excellence of goalkeeper Nathan Redman.

Spencer Harris equalised for Canterbury before Farrer completed his brace to win the game with five minutes remaining.

The result marks yet another sign of a resurgence for the 2nd team, who claimed their first league win since December 1 the previous week.

Pilgrims meanwhile drew 2-2 with Holcombe’s 2nd team, while four goals from Glenn Prebble led the 4th team to a 4-1 win over Herne Bay’s 2nd team.

Morton Pederson and Matt Hammond scored a brace apiece to help the 3rd team to a 5-1 win over Burnt Ash 2nd team and the 5th team emerged 3-1 victors against Old Williamsonians 3rd team.

A hat-trick from Tom Hill and a man- of- the- match display from goalkeeper Alan Mckibben helped secure the Millers a 5-1 win over Holcombe 3rd team, while elsewhere last-placed Griffins suffered a 2-1 defeat to Blackheath & Elthamians Heathens.

Canterbury Squires also recorded a 3- 2 win over Gravesham 3rd team thanks to Jimmy Laslett’s goal and a Richard Pollot’s brace.

The weekend, however, ended in defeat for the Friars as they lost 3-2 to K Sports 2nd team.
