FOOTBALL Monument’s final hopes thwarted Herne Bay & Whitstable Sunday League

Monument A’s hopes of reaching the Kent Junior Trophy final were ended at the semi-final stage by Farnboroug­h Old Boys Reserves. Goals from Steve Townsend, Mason Horne and Lewis Lee sealed a 3-0 win to set up a meeting with Sporting Club Thamesmead at the Gallagher Ground on April 7. Monument PFC progressed to the second round of the Faversham Charity Cup senior section with a 3-0 win over Chislet, with Danny Williams, Dan Smith and Joe Mullan grabbing the goals. Littlebour­ne knocked Monument Reserves out of the Faversham Charity Cup junior section with a 7-1 win in the first round, spearheade­d by Nathan Perry’s hat-trick. Faversham United progressed to the third round of the Whitstable Charity Cup junior section with a 5-1 win over Heron Athletic courtesy of Jonny Woollard (2), James Prior, Sam Marchent and an own goal. Rising Sun bolstered their lead at the top of the Premier Division with a 6-0 win over Tankerton Royals. Rob Lawrence scored a hattrick to add to goals from Stacy Davis, Jake Gess and Stuart King. Wingham beat Crusaders 7-1 to close the gap on thirdplace­d Tankerton to just five points with three games in hand. Chilham continued their fight for survival with a 3-2 win over Chartham Sports thanks to goals from Ben Walsh, Tom O’brien and Steven Croucher. In Division 1, Liam Wellings scored a brace to help A1 Tyres towards a 4-1 victory over City Lions. Ashley Tuite and Toby Winson also scored for A1. Faversham Strike Force were held to a 2-2 draw by Woodmans Hall. Goals from Force’s Sam Gaiger and Brandon Donaghy were cancelled out by efforts from Lewis Pout and Sam Ryan. Division 2 saw third-placed Whitstable Town Old Boys stay in the top three with a 4-0 win at Northgate Rangers, whilst secondplac­ed Herne Bay Athletic ensured they would stay put with a 2-1 win over Canterbury Toon. Calum Gore’s brace and a goal from Anton Peters led The Druids to a 3-0 win over The Heron.

failure to breach some stern defending was punished in the final minute when Loomer latched onto Ieuan Morgan’s long ball to fire into the roof of the net.
