ROUND-UP: CITY’S GIRLS GO MARCHING ON WHILE UNDER-16S EDGE NINE-GOAL THRILLER

-

Canterbury City’s under-18 girls scored six unanswered first-half goals to soar to three points against Sittingbourne on Sunday. The result extended their winning streak to 17 games and strengthened their position at the top of the Kent Girls and Ladies League. Tiegan Stevens and Libby Rowland each fired a brace, while Jodie Cain and Ella Wilson were also on the scoresheet in a typically dominant performance from Paul Stevens’ side. Stevens said: “I’m delighted with another win and a clean sheet. All these girls know exactly what their job is now and every week they execute it perfectly.” Another win takes the unbeaten Canterbury side on to 51 points with seven games remaining. Canterbury City: Vergo, Tritton, S Stevens, Walker, Howard, Jordan, Cory, Cain, Harris, T Stevens, Vasseur, Wilson, Rowland. n Canterbury City’s under-16s scored four first-half goals as they came from behind to beat Ramsgate Youth 5-4. The hosts responded well to going behind early as Sam Ditton capitalised on great work from Tom Franks and Alfie Ashdown to score a brace. Ben Wiebe-williams then extended City’s lead with a stunning strike from 35 yards and he then doubled his tally by skipping beyond three challenges and slotting past the goalkeeper. City scored a fifth shortly after the interval when Josh Naylor prodded home from close range to reward Patrick Higbee and Jude King for managing to keep the ball alive in the penalty area. The visitors threatened a tense finish when they pulled a goal back before scoring from the penalty spot after Higbee had been penalised for handball. Three then became four as Canterbury needed stern defending from Malone and Whitely to see out the three points. City have now won four, drawn two and lost just one of their last seven East Kent Division 1 outings. Canterbury City: Joe Danton, Patrick Higbee, Ben Malone (C), Josh Naylor, Bailey Whitely, Tom Franks, Josh Payne, Alfie Ashdown, Ben Wiebe-williams, Sam Ditton, Dan Newton, Archie Tennant, Jude King, Jack Nickolson
