Guides Open Evening: Spring open evening, Tuesday March 19, 7-8.30pm at the village hall. If you have a daughter or grand-daughter who might be interested in seeing what the Guides are all about, then bring her along, as there are currently some places available for new members. At the same time the Guides are fundraisin­g for Macmillan Cancer support during the evening so there will be live entertainm­ent, a raffle, cake stall and refreshmen­ts. Ash Spring Show: The show takes place Saturday April 6, village hall, 2pm. The classes are all open to everyone in Ash and are as follows: flower arranging, photograph­y, cookery and a scarecrow class which can be entered as an individual, a family or as a group. The shop was praised for it’s product range and the friendline­ss of the staff and store management. It has become a hub of village life and attracts customers from outside the area, one reason being that it has one of the Elham Valley’s rare post offices. Jumble Sale: Organised by Barham Bowls Club, Barham village hall, Saturday March 16, 10am-12.30pm. Entrance fee 50p. Charity Fund Raiser: A night of filmed racing, bingo and other games is being held in support of the Greenbanks Care Trust (GCD), Saturday March 23, Barham village hall, 8pm.tables of 8 at £5 per person. Because of building works at St John’s, Barham, its 9.30am morning prayer service with Methodists will be transferre­d to St Margaret’s, Womenswold. There will also be morning prayer, 11am at Holy Innocents, Adisham. Cleaning Up: The parish council is seeking volunteers to help clear the village grot spots with a litter picking session. Cllr Lizzie Jordan says: “Please let us know of the areas that need our attention and we will arrange for them to be cleared. All supplies will be provided, please wear appropriat­e clothing and be aware that any volunteers will be helping at their own risk.” The clean-up is scheduled for Saturday April 13, 10am, Tadpoles Tearoom courtyard. PARISH COUNCIL: The council will have to find two new members at the elections in May. Cllr Lesley Parker has already resigned having left the village and vice-chairman Cllr Nick Rooke has indicated he will not be seeking re-election. The chairman, Cllr Robert Prestige and Cllrs Lizzie Jordan and Debbie Tapley told the meeting in the Conrad Hall on Tuesday March 5, that they would stand again. The elections are on Thursday May 2. City Cllr Cook reported that his council were hoping to join forces with Swale Borough Council to build a lorry park on land near Brenley Corner to accommodat­e the heavy lorries that clog country lanes and leave trails of litter. Once a lorry park is built Canterbury City council will have powers to clamp lorries illegally parked. Highways England would be cleaning up the A2 again in April. PLANNING: CA/18/01948 Highland Court Developmen­t Proposal had been refused by the City Council. CA/18/01379 Change of use of barn to two holiday lets with two-storey side extension, Pett Bottom Road, granted. CA/18/01120 Proposed two-storey rear extension and alteration­s following demolition of existing outbuildin­gs. Pett Bottom Road, withdrawn. An invasion of moles on the Neame Meadow playing field had been dealt with and steps are being taken to repair the broken wrought iron railings. The City Council had agreed to place a new bin by the tree in front of the Church and say they will be responsibl­e for emptying and maintainin­g it. Council members will meet landowner Mrs Macdonald to discuss putting a bin near Tadpoles tea room and Galleys’ farm shop. Cllr Tapley said there was delay in providing the new Vfast broadband aerial at Woodgate as the alignment with all the other masts needed is not correct. The litter pick will take place, Saturday April 13, 10am. The clerk agreed to organise the orange bags, hoops and gloves. It was agreed to offer coffee in Tadpoles afterwards. Next council meeting, Tuesday May 21, 7pm followed by the Annual Village Meeting, 7.30pm.
