Residents are now deemed to own their own bins and if any go missing or become damaged, they must pay for replacements themselves. The village hall has had new windows installed. A resident has suggested that Wi-fi should be installed in the village hall and has offered to help organise it and raise funds to pay for it. The PC could take on the responsibility and it was agreed that they could ask the resident to submit details and a plan and costs. First, the Clerk needs to resolve the request to Royal Mail for a hall entry on the Postal Address File (PAF) as this is needed by BT & other providers before carrying out a survey and quote. Hersden Primary School wants to change its name and is asking people for suggestions. All CCC car parks are being converted to ANPR style charging. Residents need to open a new registered charging account for the newly converted car parks. Paths walked in the two fields site, Staines Hill. The Clerk has researched the next steps required to get paths across the site added to the definitive map. Flooding of CB91. Tree works carried out by Bellway Homes may have exacerbated flooding of the path at the bottom of the two fields site. The contractor has said they can complete the work and invoice by March 31 2019. Cllr Dawson is to retire from the PC and not stand for the next four-year term. Any person wishing to stand will need to complete a nomination form. Annual Electors meeting Tuesday March 26 2019, National Grid have confirmed they will provide a guest speaker. Tree management: A policy/ strategy for trees in the churchyards and the village green should be considered. The official requirement is that the PC take “a reasonable duty of care” when it comes to assessing its responsibility to risk and ideally that inspections should be undertaken by someone with expertise and qualifications. Canterbury Photographic Society Renowned awarding winning and published local landscape photographer Alex Hare shared his photographic journey with members at Wednesday’s meeting. He thought that a career in the Royal Marines would suit his love of outdoor pursuits and travel but became disillusioned and soon left to train as a solicitor. His love of photography took hold and he began to travel with his camera and was influenced by the likes of Ansel Adams, Charlie Waite and Joe Cornish. He learned much from their approach to photography. He plotted their locations and mapped their viewpoints but gradually took great satisfaction in capturing photographs from a different vantage point and in different conditions making the images his own. He is a firm believer of doing the best you can with the equipment available to you and achieving as much in camera as possible to reduce the time spent in the digital darkroom but accepts that this is an essential part of giving life to an image that you have taken the time to capture. His presentation included some excellent examples of his successful images and the stories behind what made them memorable images but he wasn’t shy to share those early images, some taken on film cameras, and point out his mistakes and how he learned and progressed. The next meeting will be the last of the projected digital image competitions and the set subject is ‘Rain’. Potential new members and guests always welcome. Please visit www. canterburyphotograohicsociety. com or phone Wendy Kennett 07540 519182.

On Monday a group of members made the journey to Parkwood Camera Club, Rainham, for our annual inter-club battle. This competition is a digital one, with each club providing 20 images each. The subject for the competition, this year set by Herne Bay, was “Light and Shade”. Our judge for the evening was regular favourite Glyn Barham LRPS CPAGB. Herne Bay did well, with three top-scoring images: ‘Loch Duich’ by Eileen Wilkinson ARPS, CPAGB, AFIAP, ‘Misty Morning’ by Denise Smith, and ‘Stop Pulling’ by Steve Roberts LRPS.
