Win makes sure of title Herne Bay

Herne Bay men’s 4ths beat Blackheath & Elthamians Highwaymen 6-0 to become Kent Open Division 2 champions at the weekend. Stephen Irvine, Jay Newell and Adam Stevens scored a brace apiece to lift Bay to an unassailab­le 38 points with one game remaining. The men’s 2nd team, meanwhile, beat Canterbury Millers 5-3 thanks to two each from Sam Thompson and Adam Foster as well as a goal from Kai Appleby. Tony Burton also produced a man-of-the-match performanc­e to help the Millers respond to successive defeats. Bay’s men’s 3rds scored seven without reply against Holcombe 4ths team to leapfrog Old Williamson­ians 3rds into sixth in Open Premier B. Aaron White scored a hattrick to earn man-of-thematch, while Paul Mcvey grabbed two and both Jake Marsh and Matt Young also got amongst the goals. Elsewhere goals from Craig Dale and Simon NewmanColl­ins combined with a jointman of the match effort from Ollie Bartlett and Sammy Watson in delivering a 2-1 win for the men’s 1sts over Holcombe 2A. The men’s 5th string side sit in ninth place following their 3-0 defeat to K Sports 2nd team, while Bay ladies’ 3rds were confined to eighth after losing 4-1 to King’s & Alleyn’s 3rds. Two goals from Bella Daly added to one each from Jemma Edmunds and Sally Pywell in earning the ladies’ 2nds a 4-2 victory over Burnt Ash 4ths. Saturday also ended in victory for the ladies’ 1sts, who beat Meopham 1sts 3-1 courtesy of two goals from Lisa Watson and one from Amy Mason.
