ISTHMIAN SOUTH EAST: Adesite’s late winner

LAST-GASP STRIKE GIVES COLLINS HIS FIRST WIN AS MANAGER

-

Anthony Adesite grabbed a last-gasp winner to give James Collins his first win as Faversham Town boss at Salters Lane on Saturday. Town’s home game against Three Bridges was into its dying throes when Adesite popped up to score the game’s only goal.

The win, Faversham’s fourth of the season, pushed them up to 14th in Isthmian South East, one place behind Whitstable who paid for a poor first half in their 3-0 defeat away to Whitehawk.

Playing their first league game for three weeks, Town were two down inside seven minutes and three down by half-time as the hosts dominated. Defender Marvin Hamilton opened the scoring in the third minute, heading home a corner from Dave Martin who also provided the assist for Connor Tighe’s near post finish. Former Millwall winger Martin also had a hand in Whitehawk’s third goal, five minutes before half-time. His first shot was beaten out by Town keeper Dan Eason but Martin retrieved possession before crossing for Tighe to fire home. Whitstable manager Lloyd

Blackman introduced Marcus Elliott and Liam Gillies for the second half and Town looked much better as a result. Josh Spencer headed over, while TJ Jadama had a shot which home keeper James Broadbent did well to push behind for a corner.

A throw from Connor Sanders caused confusion with a Whitehawk defender helping the ball across goal and back off the post to Tom Bryant, whose header was saved.

Town almost grabbed a late consolation from a corner which ended with a shot from Sanders just being cleared off the line by JP Kissock. Herne Bay saw two points slip from their grasp as they were held 2-2 at home by Ashford United whose keeper Sam Mott was outstanding. Ben Smith’s men led 2-0 with 17 minutes remaining, only to concede an 89th minute equaliser. Bay, fielding midfielder Tom Carlton who re-signed the day before from Hythe, went ahead on 18 minutes through Tushaun-tyreese Walters who received the ball on the right and brushed off several challenges before sliding the ball under Mott.

The home side doubled their lead just before half-time with a quality goal from Zak Ansah who floated the ball over Mott from the edge of the area. But for Mott Bay would have increased their lead but Ashford pulled a goal back when substitute Tashi-jay Kwayie smashed home from close range.

Mott then produced block point blank saves from Ansah, Walters and Keiron Campbell and, in the final minute, United’s David Smith broke Bay’s hearts by drilling in at the far post from a corner. To add to Bay’s misery Walters was sent off following a second yellow card.

Bay fielded debutants Henry Harvey, Michael Schweigert and Temiloluwa Oladejo in Tuesday’s 1-0 Velocity Trophy defeat at Ramsgate.

The only goal was scored by on 54 minutes by Rory Smith. Faversham were beaten 4-2 at Ashford who led 3-0 before the Lilywhites mounted a comeback.

Goals from Levi Gold (13), Jake Mcintyre (33) and Theo Osinfolarin (56) looked to have given United a comfortable cushion but strikes from Max Morgan (61) and Adesite (73) gave Town hope before Mo Kamara sealed the Ashford win with eight minutes left.
