Work together to get rebuild done

-

The visit to Canterbury by the Shadow Health Secretary and others in support of Ms Duffield is of course to be expected during an election campaign.

We should welcome the visit to, and comments about, our hospital, and the observations on the state of the hospital, and its need for “a significant investment, rebuild and rescue package to work for for the whole community.” Recently, Mr Johnson, for the Conservatives, also made remarks on the need for a rebuild of the hospital in Canterbury.

So, at present it sounds as if both main parties support a redevelopment? It would go down well and also support the new Kent and Medway medical school, opening soon at the University of Kent.

Perhaps the two main political parties, since they agree on this, should work together to get the rebuild done!

I have lived in hope since 1997, when EKH and the government decided to downgrade the K&C to virtual cottage hospital status, that this plan would be reversed for the benefit of the whole of east Kent’s residents.

Bob Heddle n Anna Firth has just written to me: “I have no idea why the Kent & Canterbury was not on the list of 40 hospitals highlighted by the government”. In her position, surely she should have?

In fairness to her, she also continued: “But in my opinion it certainly should have been and I will not rest until there is either a new list or it is extended to 41.”
