Ansah leads fightback

Herne Bay won 4-2 at VCD Athletic on Saturday after coming back from 2-0 down, writes Ollie Collins.

Kieron Campbell opened the scoring for the Bay, before a Zak Ansah brace and a lastminute goal from Ryan Cooper secured three points. After conceding two early goals, Bay were back level before the break.

In the 44th minute Tom Carlton produced a brilliant cross to find Campbell who finished well.

A minute later and Bay looked like a different team after the ruthless Ansah scored his first of the game.

The comeback was complete in the 50th minute when Ansah grabbed his second and Bay’s third.

VCD dominated the next half an hour as they went in search of an equaliser.

Bay keeper George Kamurasi had to make some excellent saves to keep his side ahead. The scoring was complete in the 95th minute when rightback Cooper ran from his own half to put the ball in an empty net with VCD’S keeper up for a late corner.

Isthmian South East and face Haywards Heath Town on Saturday.

Striker Aaron Millbank scored both goals for the Oystermen either side of a Jack Hopkins free-kick for the visitors. Whitstable took the lead in the 11th minute when Marshall Wratten headed the ball down the left for Millbank who struck a left-footed shot past Phoenix keeper Steve Phillips. The home side continued to threaten with Jake Mackenzie and Tom Bryant having efforts saved before half-time. Phoenix were level in the 57th minute thanks to a freekick from Hopkins. Bryant was booked for a foul on the edge of the box and Hopkins’ shot went in off the post out of reach of Dan Eason in the Whitstable goal. The Oystermen grabbed the winner with 80 minutes on the clock. John Ufuah and Harry Stannard both had attempts blocked before Millbank fired his second of the game into the roof of the net. Whitstable, due to take on Guernsey l a s t ni g ht (Wednesday), are away to Ramsgate on Saturday. Faversham Town drew 0-0 with play-off hopefuls Whyteleafe on Saturday. It was a game of few chances with the away side looking more likely to score early on. Li l y whi t e s c e n t r e - b a c k Stefan Wright made three fantastic blocks against shots from Leafe’s Martin Sontan, Bentley Graham and Cory Andrews in the space of a few minutes.

Luke Griffiths had Faversham’s best chance of the game in the 37th minute but his goal-bound shot was cleared off the line by Nathan Campbell. Faversham drew 0-0 with Ramsgate at Salters Lane on Tuesday night and moved up to 14th in the table.

The Lilywhites travel to Burgess Hill on Saturday.
