Heavy defeat continues learning process for City

Canterbury City 0 Tunbridge Wells 5

-

City responded with a break down the left from Jed Brown but, despite having two attempts to cross the ball, both were easily cleared by Wells.

The visitors were looking dangerous with every attack and went close to doubling their lead on 13 minutes when the ball looped up and came off the face of the crossbar after a corner. The rebound was fired back towards goal but Ware made the save.

Wells doubled their advantage when a sweeping cross-field ball from left to right wrong-footed the whole City defence and, eventually, it was played back into the edge of the box where Jordan Wells thumped home.

City made a change at the break, bringing on Liam Quinn for Teddy Nelson.

Early in the second period, there were opportunities at both ends as Clark Woodcock fired well wide for Wells while Tom Barton’s dangerous cross was hurriedly scooped away by Wells goalkeeper Simon Overland.

But the away team added a third goal when a quick break from Euan Sahadow opened City up and the ball made its way to Matt Day who thundered a terrific strike past Ware. Another change for City saw Alex Smith replace Jamie Chamberlaine but City were struggling to stop the tide of attacks as Josh Froggatt set up Sahadow who screwed his shot a foot wide.

Wells scored their fourth when a low cross from the left induced a scramble in front of the City goal 20 minutes from time, with Sahadow scooping the ball home.

Then, on 84 minutes, Tunbridge Wells made it five to seal their Southern Counties East success.

After a break down the right, Rhys Bartlett smashed a shot which flew past Ware.
