Woollcott wants a much better show
Joint-boss Chris Woollcott wants a much-improved Canterbury City performance at Tunbridge Wells than the one produced in their previous meeting.
City faced Wells twice last month and lost on both occasions.
A 2-0 defeat in the SCEFL Challenge Cup on January 22 was followed by a 5-0 Wells win three days later.
The teams meet again on Saturday and, when asked if he hoped his team could show more of what they are about this time around, Woollcott replied: “Ideally, that would be nice.
“We played them in the cup with a bit of a mixed side and only lost 2-0. But the 5-0 defeat was massively disappointing. “It’s a massive incentive for the players to go out there now and prove they are better than that.
“But we will see how we go.
“We will certainly be looking for a much-improved performance.” City did, however, win 3-2 at Erith
Town last Saturday. Woollcott said: “We needed a reaction after the Tunbridge game because they taught us a bit of a lesson and we were nowhere near our usual standards. “But that’s two wins in the last three league games.
“We were after a reaction and managed to get it.
“We asked the players to show us the minerals to compete against one of the better sides in the league and, to be fair, they did.”
Tarik Ibrahim, who has signed from Greenwich Borough, scored while Tom Barton and Thomas Ngegbe netted, too. Midfielder James Turner has recently re-signed for City and Woollcott said: “I really like him.
“He is a good player. He is very experienced and he has played a lot of games at this level and Isthmian League level.
“He is a good person to bring into the dressing room.
“We thought he was brilliant on Saturday.”
