Runaway leaders cannot be halted

-

Canterbury ladies were unable to halt the progress of runaway National Division 1 South leaders Wimbledon on Saturday, but picked up a point on their travels the following day against Cambridge City.

At Polo Farm on Saturday, Wimbledon were 2-0 ahead at half-time through efforts from Fiona Semple and Olivia Chilton. Semple scored her second short corner goal eight minutes from time for a 3-0 victory, making it 15 wins from 15 games for the south London side. Elizabeth Jenkins gave Canterbury the perfect start the following day at Cambridge, scoring after just six minutes.

Megan Crowson equalised for the hosts in the 28th minute and the score stayed at 1-1. Canterbury, seventh in the table, travel to take on second from bottom Isca in Exeter on Saturday. Canterbury ladies’ 2nds also played two games in two days at the weekend, similarly losing one game and drawing the other.

They conceded three goals in seven second-half minutes in a 5-0 defeat to Barnes in National Conference East at Polo Farm on Sunday.

The day before, Alice Brett scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Chelmsford.

This Saturday the 2nds take on basement side Ipswich at Polo Farm.

Second from bottom Canterbury 2A were beaten by Basildon – the side just above them in the table – 3-1 in East League Division 1 South.

The are at home to mid-table Letchworth on Saturday. In Kent Division 1, Canterbury ladies’ 3rds were beaten 1-0 at Meopham.

On Saturday they take on league leaders King’s & Alleyn’s 2nds.
