No money? Only for the ridiculous

- Bernice Smith David Cawley

Ha ha ha - I’ve just read that the council is short of money Is this the reason why they have given us the cheapest looking car park? Not so long ago St Dunstan’s was stopped from having a German supermarket as it would spoil the special character of the area. There are people who think this monstrosity car park was foisted on the people of Canterbury because we rose up against the council’s Westgate Towers traffic management plan. Who knows what other ridiculous schemes are going on in the heads of our planners? Oh, I’ve just remembered - the Wincheap water meadows scheme.

valley and to appreciate the flora and fauna of the wetlands at close range.

The original sum to put the boardwalk up was £65,000 in 2011; the cost of simply clearing up will be large and replacement very costly indeed.

The Labour councillors will be asking for all the city councillors to support a motion at the next full council meeting to ask the city council to assist Love Hambrook Marshes with the clear-up of the boardwalk and the creation of a new path across the marshes both practically and financially.

In the meantime, would everyone please look out for and support the concert to raise funds for the Love Hambrook Marshes clear-up and follow them on Facebook.

streetscape is to be deplored. Even when it was in use in conjunction with the Rootes Group premises next door, the old school had a distinct and pleasing appearance. Surely an architect of Mr Hollaway’s ability could have incorporated it within his scheme. The connection with St Mary Bredin recalls the old church of that dedication which stood at the junction of Rose Lane and Gravel Walk. It took Hitler and the might of the Luftwaffe to bring that building down. The old school needed only the Inspector and Mr Hollaway. Is this, perhaps, a shock too far?
