Boughton BC’S Acorns team maintained their place at the top of Division 2 of the East Kent Short Mat Bowls League with just one home match to go, collecting six points from a 37-18 win at Minster Monks. Rink details: Karen Gentry, Brian Gentry and Phil Philpot won 12-9; Lesley Holmes, Mike Best and Bob Holliday won 25-9.

In Division 3, the Challenger­s were beaten 31-11 at Chislet Cheetahs, losing the rinks 13-8 and 18-5.

The Courtenays managed three points from a draw at Canterbury Tales.

They lost rink one 18-11, but Bruce Sanders, Linda Prior and Brenda Graham won on rink two 14-7.

In the Dusty Miller pairs, a competitio­n held at Hawkinge, Boughton’s Bob Holliday and Brian May got as far as the quarter-finals. Reaching the finals, however, were clubmates Karen Gentry and Phil Philpot, who were the runners-up to winners Bryan Nicholson and Sue Trott.

■ Chislet Labradors defeated EKSBL Division 3 leaders Herne Bay Lancasters 30-22. The rink of Sue Clarke, Jim Bellingham and Jack Cramp won 15-6, while Wilf Laughton, Mick Holmes and Jon Goddard lost 15-16 but scored a hot shot of six.

In the same division, Chislet Cheetahs beat Boughton Challenger­s 31-13. Lesley Eames, John Griffiths and Rick Eames won 13-8, and Jackie Eliot, Agnes Griffiths and Dave Eliot triumphed 18-5.

■ Oyster IBC’S ladies won their Kent League match at home to Royal Tunbridge Wells by an overall margin of 107-82, collecting eight points

Rink details: Janet Whitbread, Jacqueline Harvey, Penny Perkins and Janet Drewitt lost 21-18; Pauline Hogston, Barbara Mcgillicud­dy, Joyce Whitlock, Sue Swan won 30-8; Maureen Aitken, Jean Bourner, Chris Benneworth, Eunice Holder won 25-14; Maralyn Whamond, Marion Algar, Shirley Fey, Jan Allen lost 22-16; Madelene Mcconomy, Ruth Emert, Janet Gray, Sylvia Sweeting won 18-17.

The men went to Bromley for a league match, but only won on one rink, losing 134-70 and picking up just one point.

Rink details: Gordon Hayes, John Chase, Bob James and David Ferguson won 31-10; Gordon Bourn, John Baker, Noel Henry and Brian Gambrill lost 44-3; Peter Hogston, Malcolm Scott, Graham Lucas and Brian Watson lost 27-12; Peter Needham, John Day, Peter Gibson and Ian Burton lost 27-7; Brian Maxted, Mo Gray, Peter Boeg and Brian Gentle lost 26-17. Their next league game was against Thanet and they only lost on two rinks in a 113-93 win, gaining eight points.

Rink details: Maurice Odell, David Appleton, Bob James and David Ferguson won 18-17; Malcolm Price, Phil Jordan, Karl Davies and Brian Gambrill lost 20-19; Mervyn Gulvin, Phil Scott-martin, Alan Reid and Roger Benneworth won 17-14; Peter Hogston, Norman Crawford, Keith Dellard and Brian Watson won 17-14; Tony Clark, Malcolm Scott, Peter Boeg and Brian Gentle won 27-10; Gordon Hayes, John Day, Ron Clee and Eddie Swan lost 18-15.

Against Dartford Stone Lodge, the Oyster won on one rink and drew another. They were beaten 80-148.

Rink scores: Ken Shorter, Brian Maxted, Les Bartholome­w and Brian Gambrill lost 21-11; Maurice Odell, David Appleton, Graham Lucas and Alan Cornfoot drew 17-17; Mervyn Gulvin, Mo Gray, Peter Field and Thomas Attaway won 19-16; Gordon Bourn, John Day, Peter Boeg and Brian Gentle won 17-23; Peter Needham, Noel Henry, Karl Davies and Ian Burton lost 35-6; Peter Hogston, Malcolm Scott, Keith Dellard and Brian Watson lost 36-10.
