SOUTHERN COUNTIES EAST LEAGUE:
CITY NOT JUST LOOKING AT STRIKER THREAT
Joint-boss Chris Woollcott insists Canterbury City willhavetobewaryofall of Lordswood’s attacking threats this weekend. Striker Luke Medley is the Lords’ top scorer having netted 16 league and cup goals this season.
But Woollcott knows Lordswood have other threats City will need to be wary of, as well as Medley, during Saturday’s game at Salters Lane.
“I know a few of their lads,” he said. “They have got a few good players and a good management team from what I know about them. “When a team has a player who gets all their goals, like Dan Bradshaw at Sheppey and Luke at Lordswood, there is a temptation to just concentrate on (stopping) them.
“But someone has to provide them with the chances. “Of course we will look out for him (Medley), but we need to focus on their other threats as well.”
Only three points separate the two mid-table teams. Woollcott said: “It’s going to be another tough game. They are in and around us. “They could go level on points with us if they get a win but we have sort of set a target. “I have been told our best finish at Canterbury has been seventh at this level (as they finished their 1965/66 campaign in Southern League Division 1) so we will try and beat that.”
City were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom side Erith & Belvedere last weekend,
Adam Woollcott and James Turner netting. Woollcott has now scored in successive games and Chris said: “We want to see a bit more of that from him. But he has played very well. “In the last couple of games, he has been the heartbeat of the side.
“I’m his biggest critic as his brother but Josh (Hall, City’s other joint-manager) has been happy with him.” City will travel to Tunbridge Wells for a re-arranged fixtures on Tuesday night.
