points clear of The Heron at the top of Division 2 following their 3-0 win at Tankerton. Dawes Herne Hill Herons edged to a 4-3 win over Oyster Boys. A penalty converted by Dom Emptage put Herons ahead but the away side responded with two goals to take the lead. Just before half-time, Herons won a series of corners, with Ben Stead eventually taking advantage, thundering home a 20-yard pile-driver.

There was still time for another Herons goal, Joe Pointer finding the net from a free-kick.

In the second half, the Oysters equalised before an excellent move involving Henry Buttayotee, Ben Englefield and Harry Mckenna released Luke James to make it 4-3 to Herons. In under-21 action, Dover Colts defeated Lydd 3-2, while Canterbury Eagles drew 2-2 with Hawkinge.

Herne Bay FC Women’s ambition to finish runners-up in the Premier Division of the SECWFL was dealt a blow by Lewes on Sunday.

The Sussex side took revenge for their league cup semifinal defeat at Bay’s hands a fortnight ago with a display of neat passing football that saw them to a 4-0 win. Missing key players, Herne Bay looked unbalanced and were swept aside in the first half as Lewes stormed to a 3-0 lead.

After the break, Bay changed their formation and fared better as a result with Molly Shipton going closest to scoring when her looping header from a Chloe Woolaway corner was cleared off the line.

Lewes scored in the second half to keep the pressure on Worthing at the top of the table.

Herne Bay: Jasmin Connolly, Lucy Page, Molly Shipton, Saraya Phillips, Abigail Duff, Alice Phillips, Megan Pearce, Katie Reeves, Abbie Potter, Jordan Langstone, Chloe Woolaway. Subs: Lillian Tucker, Ellie Turner.
