Canterbury & District Primary Schools have reached the final of two cup competitions, the Kent Cup and the Gills Shield.

This has given them the opportunity to be the first team from the Canterbury & District Primary section to ever win a trophy, something not achieved in 55 years.

Having beaten Gravesham, West Kent and Maidstone districts, they face Orpington in the Kent Cup final at Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadium under floodlights on Friday, March 27. They then face either Thurrock or Dartford District in the Gills Shield final on a date to be announced, having beaten Sutton, Thanet, Ashford and Basildon districts along the way.

The squad comprises boys brought together from schools across Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and Faversham.

Ben Wiebe-williams stunned Ramsgate, scoring all of Canterbury City under-18s’ goals in a 4-0 East Kent Youth League Division 1 win.

After Suarav Tilija was fouled on the edge of the box, Wiebe-williams stepped up and curled a cracking free-kick into the top corner. The Rams soon equalised but Wiebe-williams tapped in before half-time to restore City’s lead.

City keeper Joe Danton pulled off two fine saves at the start of the second half and Josh Naylor cleared an effort off the line.

Carlos Vivani put in Wiebe-williams who rounded the keeper to bag a third and he got his fourth when a goal kick fell to him and he scored via the post.
