Strike Force pay tribute to much-loved coach Trevor
Faversham Strike Force
Faversham Strike Force have paid tribute to under-13s coach Trevor Twyman.
The much-loved coach, who lived in the town and had been a club volunteer for more than seven years, passed away following a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife and two sons, who are all active members of Strike Force. Teams observed a minute’s silence before their matches at the weekend as a mark of respect, while a Just Giving page has been established to raise money for the Make-aWish Foundation – a charity close to Trevor’s heart.
A club statement said: “As well as a friend to many, he was a much-adored husband, father and football coach.
“We cannot express how proud we are that Trevor volunteered with the club and supported so many young players. He was always committed to ensuring everyone felt involved and
enjoyed the sport we all love. “He was a kind, funny and genuine man who always had time for people. His loss will be felt throughout the club, but we are thankful for the happy memories and support Trevor provided. Rest in peace, Trev.” On the pitch, Strike Force claimed their first point of the season in the Kent County League Premier Division following a see-saw 2-2 draw at Fleetdown.
The Force flew out of the
blocks following last week’s opening-day drubbing at Crockenhill, and were quickly two goals to the good thanks to Tom Barton and Dave Walsh. The hosts clawed one back before the break and were dominant as they hauled themselves level on the hour. There was late drama following a tactical switch as Faversham won a lastminute penalty. But, with the final kick of the game, Kane Taylor’s effort was saved
agonisingly by the Fleetdown keeper. Tom Gates was named man-of-the-match for a solid display.
Strike Force Women got their campaign off to a flying start, as nine players found the net against newly-formed Baypoint Ladies in the South East Counties Women’s League.
The side’s strong preparation, with three friendlies already under their belts, paid off with a strong performance and clean sheet. Ange Aldous was named player-of-the-match by her opponents for a great defensive display. Under-10 Lightning warmed up for their league campaign with a friendly against Herne Bay Youth. In a highly competitive game, Roman Lee helped to blow the cobwebs away with a goal and was rewarded with the player-ofthe-match award.
In a practice match for both sides, under-10 Thunder played under-9 Lightning, with Ethan Hickford providing five assists and a goal for his team. Dexter Willmott (3), Ethan Whelan (2), Kailan Wallace, Liam Deveson and Ethan Stanley also scored.
The under-8 Lightning side showed great promise for the season ahead with an excellent team performance against Whitstable Town. There were hat-tricks for Ellison Gashi, Tyger Pharoah and Reuben Wilkinson, with Elliott Jones adding a brace. Due to their excellent passing and teamwork, the entire side was named man-of-the-match.
