Bigger problems than late post
Further to Bob Simmonds letter last week, I respectfully advise that he needs a reality check. The world is facing a horrific pandemic, the like never seen in most people’s lives. Over a million people worldwide have died, people are losing their jobs and children are losing their education.
So many people have made so many sacrifices without moaning. Yes, there will always be a few jobsworths who follow the letter of the law too stringently - maybe they are a little bit scared too.
As to the late arrival of Christmas post, however inconvenient it may be, it pales into insignificance in the bigger picture.
Postal workers like all other frontline workers are doing their utmost in almost impossible circumstances and the last thing they need is criticism.
As to the workings of the Post Office, it is now a private company which needs to maximise profits for its shareholders.

With regard to postal delays, I realise that Covid has meant that staff numbers are down which makes sorting and deliveries take longer.
However I hear from one of the postmen that parcels are being given priority over letters. I feel this is unacceptable. Delays in the delivery of letters meant scores of the elderly in this area of Whitstable missed getting their Covid vaccination because the letter arrived too late. This is inexcusable.
The elderly are the ones suffering most at this time. So many are living alone, a long way from family and friends that a letter or card can mean so much. Christine Conway
