Quickly proved right on Brexit

-

How deliciously ironic that your letters column is full of writers supporting Rosie Duffield and her desire to rejoin the EU on the very day the national press is highlighting the EU’S demands that we should share with them the vaccine that we have developed, ordered, paid for and produced in British factories part-funded by the UK Government. And all because the EU made a complete pigs up of its response to Covid-19, getting its order in to Astrazeneca three months after we did.

If ever there was an illustration of why we are better off out, this is it. Yes there are teething problems - they were expected and those of us who voted out knew there would be an impact on the economy. What we wanted was the ability to make our own decisions. What we never expected was to be proved right so quickly. Thanks to our Government I had my first jab last night. If I was in Europe I’d still be waiting.

Rosie Duffield’s position on the Brexit deal is that “Our relationship with Europe is vital. The EU-UK Trade Deal will damage that relationship and negatively impact our local economy and the wellbeing. I did not want to vote against the motion and therefore tacitly support a No Deal scenario, so I took the decision to abstain”. Agreed - Johnson owns this mess. Unfortunately, Brexit is becoming a worse and worse nightmare. When you take the wrong road, you backtrack and it is entirely logical and appropriate to work towards rejoining the EU but, as Rosie says, “it won’t be in the next five years”. No-one seems to be happy with the deal - certainly not
