Draw ends losing run

- Isthmian League

Whitstable Town claimed a point at home to VCD Athletic on Tuesday night to end their run of defeats in the opening weeks of the season.

The Oystermen had suffered defeats from their first four matches in Isthmian South East, but a late Gus Barnes goal ensured their midweek home match against VCD ended 1-1.

Barnes had only been on the field for five minutes, as an 82nd-minute substitute, before he fired in for Whitstable to claim a much-needed point. They had been trailing to a 76th-minute goal, put into his own net by Jack Miles.

Town lost 1-0 at Lancing on Saturday, conceding after just nine minutes.

Faversham Town have now gone three games without a point.

A 4-0 home defeat to Cray Valley on Saturday was followed up by a 2-1 loss at Ramsgate on Tuesday.

Rams scored a quickfire double at the Southwood Stadium, through Callum Peck and Josh Ajayi, before captain Harry Harding pulled one back on the hour.

On Saturday they conceded just before the break and straight after the restart to give Cray Valley a two-goal cushion that they managed to double before the close.

The Lilywhites are at home to East Grinstead Town this Saturday.

Herne Bay lost 2-1 to Ashford United and their place at the top of the table.

They found themselves two goals down as Jay May and Johan Ter Horst struck for the home side. Zak Ansah replied for Herne Bay just before half-time and Ashford went down to 10 men for the final 15 minutes after Tommie Fagg was sent off for a second bookable offence.

It was a tense finish as Bay pushed for an equaliser but 10-men Ashford held on to take top spot in the South East Division.

Herne Bay - now in fourth - had beaten Phoenix Sports 2-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Sam Naiwo and Ansah, a result which had briefly seen them sit top of the pile. Ben Smith’s side host Corinthian this Saturday.
