ATHLETICS: TRIUMPHANT BUNDY HITS THE HEIGHTS

-

Invicta East Kent under11 athletes produced some outstanding results at the Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Centre last Saturday.

Leading the way was Story Bundy, who won the boys’ high jump, while Martha Adkins was fourth in the girls’ event. On the track, Mattea Stanley had a fabulous 600m in a wellpaced race for third place. Matilda Todd, Esme Skinner, Annabel Todd and Sonny Henderson did well in their first competitive 60m. Skinner and Annabel Todd also impressed in their 600m race. Eva Hiney ran a steady-paced 600m, finishing strongly in fifth and taking lots of experience into the next one. Likewise, Flynn Warren held a good pace in the same event for fifth place. Warren, Stanley, Hiney and Henderson went flat out in the 200m while Adkins blitzed her way to finish first in her heat. Under-11 coach Ralph Noel said: “What a great start to many of these athletes’ track careers. The strength of the under-13s is amazing and is only outdone by their enthusiasm. It’s a real experience running on an indoor 200m track and they will all remember this day for years to come.”

It was a wet Canterbury Riverside 10k on Sunday - but that didn’t stop Canterbury Harriers runners from coming out in force.

Ian Hocking ran 42min24sec for third M40, Tina Jones clocked 58.15 as she finished first F65 and Joe Epsom timed 1hr18min40sec for first M70. Also running were Mark Baker (43.37), Karen Hoult (58.35) and Shirley Pullen (1:00.09).

At the Ashford and District Halloween 10-mile race, Deb Parris ran 1:16.13 for third female overall and first F50. Andy Farrant ran 1:01.04 as he finished first male V65 at the Bedgebury 10k.
