United take on best of British
Herne Bay United were represented in three categories at the British Roller Dance Championships in Brentwood last week. Maddie Erridge and Alyssa Winstone competed in the youth section of the championships - which took place after a two-year wait - by performing compulsory dances on the first day and a free dance on the second day. Dani Hayon and Talie Hayon competed on the first day of their championships in the senior category with a style dance which contains a compulsory dance sequence. Cadet Ruby O’brien took part in the Cadet Ladies’ Solo Dance Championships, having to compete over the Saturday with a compulsory dance and Sunday with a free dance.
She was awarded seventh after the first day and maintained her position on day two.
The club selected Winstone to compete in the Youth Ladies’ Solo Dance Championships, having never competed at championship level before, and she skated brilliantly. Both Erridge and Winstone competed on the Friday and the Saturday.
Erridge was awarded second and Winstone seventh after the first day before the second day saw Erridge finish third and Winstone ninth.
It means Erridge is ranked third in Great Britain and Winstone is eighth.
Dani and Talie Hayon, meanwhile, competed in the Senior Ladies’ Solo Dance Championships over the Saturday and the Sunday. Dani was awarded third and Talie was awarded second, having competed with their Latin medley style dance, before they again took third and second, respectively, on day two.
Head coach Kym Caira said: “To have our cadet skater ranked seventh, our youth skaters ranked second and eighth, and then our senior skaters ranked second and third in Great Britain speaks for itself.”
Club lessons start this Saturday at the Bay Sports Arena from 8.15am to 8.45am. Contact Caira on 07739 007889 or email kymmarsh@ hotmail.co.uk for details.
