Allison beats rivals to Shield

-

Ricky Allison won The Ray Emmerson Shield on Friday as Whitstable & Seasalter GC’S Midweekers competed for the prize.

Allison finished on 42 points, Kevin Stevens’ 38 points was enough for second, and Ian Horton took third place with 35 points. The First Round of the Winter Eclectic for 2023 saw scoring fairly low in general. The best scorer was David Rigden with 37 points, second went to Ray Campbell with 36, and third was Graham Doghan on 35.

The Captain’s Challenge proved to be just that as captain John Allen and vice-captain Andy Taylor, looking for their first win, were beaten 2&1 by John Dowle and David Goldhill.

The second of the best three from four Stableford competitions, it proved a real playing challenge due to the fierce winds and light rain - however 25 players posted scores.

Goldhill, with 36 points, was the best of them. Second went to Mick Wyles with 35 points while third was Brian Ridley who claimed 33 points.

Captain Allen and Taylor failed to achieve their maiden win as they lost to Goldhill and Brian Daw by two holes.

No competition play was possible on January 19 due to the heavilyfrosted course, although a few keen members waited until later in the morning and played the course.

Round Three of the best three from four Stableford series was played on Thursday. Overall, 22 players took part.

The best score was returned by Goldhill with 37 points, second was Malcolm Cane with 37 points and third was John Stokes - also with 37 points.
