25th Billing Show looks set to be the best ever

- Story and Pictures: Dave Phillips

This year the Billing Show celebrates its 25th birthday – and looks set to be the greatest Land Rover party the world has ever seen. The latest news from the organisers is that Jaguar Land Rover are joining the celebrations to mark the occasion, with a prominent stand that will feature some of the most historic Land Rovers, as well as the very latest models. They will also be showcasing their recently-launched Land Rover Heritage division, which offers original Land Rover vehicle parts for a variety of legendary models that have been out of production for longer than a decade.

This year, the show is a week or two later than usual, opening on the last day of July. It was a logical step to stage it during the school holidays, since Billing has always been known as the most family-orientated of all the Land Rover events. And to emphasise its familyfriendliness, the organisers have put their money where their mouths are this year and decided to give free entry to under-15s.

In the unlikely event of the youngsters getting bored, Billing’s 235 acres of riverside meadows also boast a funfair and a host of activities for children, including a soft play area, climbing wall, game zone, amusement arcade, Wii games station, miniature railway, adventure golf, go-karting, water pedalos and water walkers.

For the adults there are shops, restaurants and bars, a gift and craft shop, and extensive fishing in the River Nene and the large lakes on site.

But the main focus, of course, will be on what’s actually going on at this show. It will open with a special ceremony performed by some of the original team behind the very first Billing Show and, from then on, there will be action all the way.

The Odyssey Batteries Arena will include the LRM Driving Challenge, sponsored by Duckworths Land Rover, which is free to enter for all drivers – and with a host of prizes to be won.

Nearby, on our stand, we’ll be offering brilliant gifts for readers who take out subscriptions, and we’ll also have 25 very special vehicles to mark the 25 years of Billing.

It is your chance to meet thelrmteam too., so make sure you drop in and have a chat.

The arena will also feature bridge-building competitions, the Flatdog Twist- Off and teams competing in Billing’s own version of the G4 Challenge.

On the other side of the river from the main showground is the legendary Billing Off-road Course, which includes a drive through the lake – and a convenient viewing area where spectators can watch participants getting very wet and muddy!

Billing also boasts the biggest Land Rover autojumble, with more than 50 traders selling thousands of elusive parts to help enthusiasts restore their pride and joys.

There’s so much going on at Billing that many visitors stay and camp on site for the full duration of the show. Why not make a weekend of it and buy the 25th anniversary ticket that covers entry for all three event days at just £30 – giving you a saving of £6.
