“DEFENDER PERFECTION? WHAT A LOAD OF OLD TWADDLE!”
I FEEL I must reply to the letter in last month’s LRM commenting that the last Defenders coming off the line were “Perfection”...
Perfection indeed! What a load of old twaddle. While I accept that Jaguar Land Rover have finally pulled their finger out of their sorry “improved” production quality control, I have to ask if the final Defenders coming off the production line were perfection, then why oh why are there so many aftermarket companies providing a plethora of items ranging from hinges to suspension?
If there wasn’t the demand for these items, these companies would be out of business. And I’m not talking about the bling market selling to hotter climes for six-figure sums.
After 30 years of Land Rover ownership, in September 2014 I had my brand-new Defender 90 delivered straight from the franchised dealer to a rust proofing company (another burgeoning aftermarket sector).
It then underwent over 100 modifications to make it secure, safe, comfortable and, more to the point unique to my requirements.
My Defender might look standard, but it is far from it and I suspect many other Land Rover enthusiasts tailor their vehicles to suit their individual needs and requirements.
I would even be willing to put a wager that there are more Series and Defenders on the road with modifications than unmodified.
