THE PEUGEOT P4
THE STANDARD light utility vehicle of the French Armed Forces is the Peugeot P4 Véhicule Léger ToutTerrain, which dates from the mid-1980s and is now reaching the end of its active service life. Based on the Geländewagen, produced by Steyr-daimler-puch in Austria and badged as Mercedes-benz for the German Armed Forces, the licencebuilt P4 had a slightly different bodyshell and a Peugeot engine. The example pictured above, alongside an armoured Panhard VBL which uses the same drivetrain, was spotted in Imber Village on Salisbury Plain during the bilateral Exercise Griffin Strike ’16 last April.
