THE GREAT BRITISH SUMMER

Summers can be so much fun... if you have a Land Rover

- EDITOR PATRICK CRUYWAGEN

“Nothing makes me happier than the Great British Summer”

The smells of summer. Freshly-cut grass, suntan lotion and mouthwatering BBQ smoke. A time for big smiles, fun Land Rover trips and creating lifelong memories. James Dent once said: “A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken.” I would like to change the last four words of that quote to “the Land Rover is not broken.” I can’t think of anything that makes me happier than the Great British Summer – and that’s what this issue is all about. On page 42 our former editor and summer lover Dave Phillips advises us on what to with and in your Land Rover this summer.

My time at LRM has taken me to some incredible UK destinations but for our cover shoot I headed somewhere new for me – the wonderful Cornwall coastline and Steve Toyer’s Land Rover workshop. Read more about this month’s cover model on page 50. This summer LRM will officially be attending the Scotland and Kelmarsh Land Rover Shows. For those still a tad confused, the latter show is being organised by Live Promotions, who used to organise the Billing Land Rover show, which sadly is no longer a summer feature. The event outgrew its former home at Billing Aquadrome so from this year the old Billing Show is now the Kelmarsh Land Rover Show.

You can’t go to too many shows. That’s why I also plan to attend the Dunsfold Collection Land Rover Show (see page 38) and the Classic Land Rover Show.

If you do happen to see me at one of these shows do come over for a friendly chat. Chances are good that I will have a burger in one hand and a cold drink in the other. Come on Summer!
