BILLING LIVES ON!
I AM disappointed with your Welcome page comments (LRM June) about the Land Rover Billing show which I feel are less than generous towards Richard Arrowsmith’s attempts to continue the Billing tradition. It should not be forgotten how Richard, Sarah and their family have supported both the show and club use of the off-road course, along with camping facilities, for many years. The course was one of the main attractions to the show and a great charity fundraiser.
Also, it’s not correct to say that the Billing Show “outgrew it’s former home”. The Billing management chose to close their facilities to all car shows, with enthusiasts of Fords, Vauxhalls and so on, all having to relocate.
It was obvious last year that static caravan pitches were being extended at Billing Aquadrome, along with a few permanent attractions. Bob Lowery
Here at LRM we are not biased in favour of any one show and, in fact, this year we will be supporting the Billing Off-road Show run by the Arrowsmiths as well as the Kelmarsh event, which has been relocated from Billing Aquadrome.
As for our statement that the original Billing Show outgrew the venue, we stand by it. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the increase in static caravans, whose encroachment into areas formerly used by shows meant the venue could no longer provide the space required.
LRM will be attending both events. We hope you will, too – Ed.
